Player and Parent Codes of Conduct

The following rules have been set for MVBC to ensure a healthy and positive learning environment, an excellent level of achievement for all players, and the highest representation of respect and good sportsmanship. Players & Parents who do not abide by these rules will not be allowed to participate in club activities.

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Display good sportsmanship at all times.  Show respect for teammates, coaches, opponents and officials.  Never, ever criticize teammates, on or off the courts.  Our goal as a club is to show our enthusiasm and love for the game and our fellow teammates at all times.  We will compete hard and have fun as we improve as individuals.
  • Only the team captain and coach can address Referees.  DO NOT beg officials for “touches,” line calls, or any other perceived infraction.
  • While cheering and encouraging our players is hugely appreciated and encouraged, calling out “Ball’s Up!” or any other noise when the opponent serves is rude and unacceptable sportsmanship and against volleyball etiquette.
  • Maintain proper sleep and nutrition habits especially at tournaments.
  • Drug, tobacco and alcohol use by athletes is prohibited.  Use of illegal drugs at any club event will result in instant expulsion from the club.
  • Be ready to begin practice at the scheduled time (shoes and knee-pads on, taped up, ready to warm-up).  Players are expected to help coaches with set-up and break-down and storage of nets and all equipment.
  • All players must attend a minimum of 80% of practices and tournaments or risk limited playing time and dismissal from the team.  If a player will be missing a practice or tournament, that player must contact the head coach before the scheduled event by TEXT or EMAIL.
  • Academics are a priority, however, homework should not be an excuse for missing practice.
    1. All homework should be completed BEFORE practice.  Please manage your time so that you are able to attend all practices and games. If you are having issues managing your time, please contact your coach and we will help you work out a plan.  We do not want your grades to slip during club season!

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Parents will not interact with Tournament Officials for ANY REASON including Referees, Line Judges & Scorekeepers (Remember: your daughters/coaches will also make mistakes when working matches. Be respectful and allow our coaches to address any problems).
  • Parents will not discuss playing time with the coaching staff at tournaments or practices. If you have concerns about playing time or any other issue, please email the coach to discuss and/or director to set up a meeting.
  • Parents will not attempt to "coach" their daughter from the sidelines. Any player receiving "coaching" from the sidelines can be removed for the remainder of the match or practice. Please remember: Players Play; Parents Parent; Coaches Coach
  • BOTTOM LINE: Let’s not be "Those Parents." We are proud of the MVBC Family. You and your children represent our club. Please think about the following guidelines for good volleyball etiquette when you attend a tournament:

DO – Applaud good volleyball (for both teams). Appreciate the hard work that every player is putting into the match. Try not to applaud the opponent’s mistakes.  Be absolutely silent during all serves.
DON’T – Scream "SCOREBOARD!" at the work team. Remember, your daughter is only a match away from possibly making a mistake as the scorekeeper.

DO – Follow each venue’s rules about bringing in food, drinks, coolers, and chairs.

DON’T – Leave items in court chairs to “save” them for the entire day. Give up the chairs when our team is not playing.  Be alert if opponent parents want to change sides with their team, and be willing to change seats with them.
DO – Sit next to parents from both your team and other teams. Introduce yourself. DO – Show good sportsmanship and congratulate the other teams’ parents and players after a match.
DON’T – Pull your child away from her team huddle after a match. Leave if your child is not working the last match.  If the team is scheduled to work, no one leaves until everyone can leave.
DO – Congratulate the players on their improvement and effort.
DON’T – Re-hash their mistakes (we do that enough already as coaches!)
DO – Tell your child how much you love watching them play!  We sure do!
