Player and Parent Codes of Conduct

The following guidelines have been established to promote a safe, positive, and productive environment at MVBC, while supporting athlete development, high standards of performance, and respectful sportsmanship. Players and parents are expected to adhere to these expectations. Failure to do so may result in loss of eligibility to participate in club activities.

The following rules have been set for MVBC to ensure the best learning environment & effective running of our program. They address attendance, effort and conduct detrimental to our teams. These rules will be enforced without exception. Players & Parents who do not abide by these rules will not be allowed to participate in club activities.

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

At MVBC, we take pride in developing not only strong athletes, but strong teammates and leaders.

Sportsmanship & Respect

  • Display good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Show respect toward teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and tournament staff.
  • Never criticize a teammate — on or off the court.
  • Compete with intensity, improve with purpose, and play with joy.

Communication with Officials

  • Only the team captain and coach may address referees.
  • Players may not question line calls, ask for “touches,” or dispute officiating decisions.

Preparation & Commitment

  • Arrive on time and ready to begin practice (shoes on, knee pads on, taped, prepared to warm up).
  • Help coaches with set-up, breakdown, and proper storage of all equipment.
  • Attend at least 80% of practices and tournaments. Failure to meet this expectation may result in limited playing time or dismissal.
  • If you must miss a practice or tournament, notify the head coach in advance via text or email.

Academics & Responsibility

  • Academics come first — however, time management is expected.
  • Homework should be completed before practice.
  • If you are struggling to balance school and volleyball, communicate with your coach. We are here to help.
  • We want strong grades and strong athletes.

Health & Conduct

  • Maintain proper sleep and nutrition habits, especially during tournaments.
  • The use of drugs, tobacco, or alcohol by athletes is strictly prohibited.
  • Use of illegal substances at any club event will result in immediate dismissal from the club.

Substance-Free Environment: MVBC maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. The use, possession, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol by players or staff at any MVBC practice, tournament, team function, or club-related event is strictly prohibited. Any violation of this policy may result in immediate disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the club. We are committed to providing a safe, healthy, and positive environment for all athletes.

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT
  • The following rules have been set for MVBC to ensure the best learning environment & effective running of our program. They address attendance, effort and conduct detrimental to our teams. These rules will be enforced without exception. Players & Parents who do not abide by these rules will not be allowed to participate in club activities.

    PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

Our families represent the heart of MVBC. We are proud of our club culture and expect all families to model integrity, respect, and positive sportsmanship. Tournament & Sideline Expectations

    • Cheer positively and enthusiastically for all players.
    • Applaud good volleyball — for both teams.
    • Do not cheer opponent errors or missed serves.
    • Do not shout during an opponent’s serve (e.g., “Ball’s up!”). This is poor etiquette and unacceptable.

    Interaction with Officials & Staff

    • Parents may not approach or interact with referees, line judges, scorekeepers, or tournament officials for any reason.
    • Remember: Our players and coaches also work matches. Respect the role.
    • Only coaches may address officiating concerns.

    Coaching & Playing Time

    • Parents may not coach from the sidelines.
    • Players receiving sideline instruction from parents may be removed from the match or practice.
    • Remember: Players Play. Parents Parent. Coaches Coach.
    • Playing time discussions will not occur at tournaments or practices.
    • Concerns should be addressed via email to schedule a meeting with the coach and/or director.

    Team Culture & Venue Etiquette

    • Follow all facility rules regarding food, drinks, coolers, and chairs.
    • Do not “save” chairs for the day. When our team is not playing, release seating.
    • Sit with and engage respectfully with other families. Introduce yourself. Build community.
    • Do not remove your child from the team huddle after matches.
    • If the team is scheduled to work a match, no one leaves until the work assignment is complete.

    Supporting Your Athlete

    • Congratulate effort and improvement.
    • Avoid rehashing mistakes — coaches provide instruction; parents provide support.
    • Tell your child you love watching them play.

The Bottom Line Let’s never be “those parents.” We are the MVBC Family. Every athlete and parent represents our club at all times. Let’s compete hard, support loudly (and respectfully), and model the character we want our athletes to carry beyond the court.
